  • The Spanish Bakery is a St. George Street eatery featuring freshly baked goods for a snack, lunch, or dinner. The Spanish Bakery nestled away in St Augustine's downtown historic district offers homemade baked bread, Spanish goods, soups, cookies, hot sauce and more. The restaurant oven is fired up every morning around 3 a.m. so all the bread is freshly made. The Spanish Bakery has been a staple in St. Augustine for over 40 years. They are tucked away in a garden off St. George Street.

Visitors and locals can order empanadas, large sausage rolls, homemade soups, cookies, and other various lunch items and drinks available on the menu. Some new additions to the bakery's dining options include sandwiches and salads. The Spanish Bakery serves chicken, vegetarian, sweet potato, and apple empanadas, plus Minorcan and datil pepper products. Warm, homemade bread is always available for purchase to enjoy at home. Outside seating is available with picnic tables and umbrellas, so vacationers can make a quick stop on their day of sightseeing to eat in the sun or the shade.

The Spanish Bakery stays true to its roots of St. Augustine with a stone hearth oven, a separate wood siding smoke house (a British innovation), and a Spanish-style white stucco shingled-roof. Vacationers can come by The Spanish Bakery and enjoy a homemade lunch or dinner while taking in the unique history this restaurant represents.

The Spanish Bakery accepts cash and credit cards. The restaurant is located next to the Whetstone Chocolate shop near the City Gate on St. George Street in the Historic District.

The manager was very rude and unprofessional when asked to accommodate children with disabilities. The manager refused. I would not recommend this place based off of the poor service towards children. I would be nice if they would honor the American Disability Act. The rating is really a 0 out of 5.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on The Spanish Bakery & Cafe. After reviewing this case we would like to explain why our policy is not to allow customers or staff to move any of the picnic tables. This is due to the heavy weight of the tables and the risk of injury. The tables are also positioned where they are to provide wheel chair access. Our manager did offer you a selection of tables which have large umbrellas that would have provided the shade you requested. I understand that you had your heart set on moving our table under the cedar tree where there was more shade. We apologize that you felt our manager was acting unprofessionally by following the company policy. The Spanish Bakery & Café does honor the American Disability Act. In the future we will make sure that our manager explains more clearly our policy for not moving the picnic tables. We hope this experience doesn’t deter you from return to the Spanish Bakery and Café as we greatly appreciate your business.

Quaint, delicious & affordable. Outdoor seating at picnic tables; bring your bike or your dog :-) One of the best kept secrets of St. Augustine! The Minorcan clam chowder is to die for, and the pastries too :-)

Love the Spanish Bakery! We never go down Saint George St. without stopping by. It reminds me of days gone by.

This restaurant has been around forever and is plagued by insanely short hours, but that's to guarantee absolutely fresh food. When the food runs out, they're done for day. But the food is rich, stove-fresh delight! So are the cookies! Def a simple, affordable St. Augustine MUST!
