  • Athena's Greek Restaurant presents authentic Greek cuisine in the heart of St. Augustine. Located at 14 Cathedral  Place, Athena's opens at 7:00 a.m. and serves traditional breakfasts as well as their Greek or gyro omelete or souvlaki and eggs.

    For lunch and dinner, Athena's offers a variety of mouth-watering Greek specialties. Start with an appetizer such as their famous flaming cheese (saganaki) or Athena's Platter with hummus, taramosalata, and tzatziki. They offer sandwiches, salads, and traditional entrees such as moussaka, spinach pie, and kabobs. Athena's uses fresh ingredients and authentic Frixa Olive Oil, made from olives grown in the owner's home town in Greece.

    The intimate dining area features murals and an arched ceiling, and the service is excellent.

    Whenever we have out of town guests, I make it a point to take them to the Athena where in the heart of the Plaza, we can experience Greek cuisine prepared with the most luscious olive oil... well done!

    This is a great little place with very delicious gyros. Fast service and good price. I used to work at a greek restaurant and the gyros here have nothing to envy the ones thag chefs used to prepare at my old job.

    At first I was trying to be understanding since there was only two servers. I then realized that three tables that arrived after us had gotten their food and was now trying to pay for their order. I asked the hostess about our order and she said they were behind. I then asked the waitress after not seeing her for a long time to only find out that she lost our ticket and the order never made it in. I waited over an hour and 45 minutes to find out they never even cooked the food. I told them I wanted to speak to the manager that I did not feel I should have to pay for my tea and appetizer. Of course he is the one trying to cook in the back and doesn't even come out to apologize or deal with a customer. What a waste of time. Recommend that no one go here.

    I was in St. Augustine at the beginning of August for the first time. My date, who had lived there for over 25 years, took me to places he frequented during his life in St. Augustine. We had breakfast at Athena Greek Restaurant and although our waitress was not the friendliest, she provided us with quick and courteous service. I ordered the Greek Spinach omelet w/feta cheese for breakfast and have to say that it was the most delicious omelet I have ever eaten in my life!! I will return every time I visit St. Augustine.

    I had the gyro platter and was very disappointed. I've had better gyros that costs less than $10.00 and a much better service. The servers at this restaurant are very rude and unfriendly. When we politely asked for napkins, the server complained in a very nagative tone that he just gave us napkins. When my mother asked about details on the menu, the server seemed very annoyed by the question. Without any eye contact, the server gave my mother a hurried answer with slight hint of annoyance. The service and food is not worth the money. I've never had such a bad experience in a restaurant.
