Where Can I Catch Professional Sports Near St. Augustine?
St. Augustine does not have the professional sports presence of major cities. This is a fact and we are not ashamed of it. We're known for a lot of amazing things—our history, our beaches, our bed and breakfasts, our really cramped but picturesque European-style streets—but when it comes to fan experiences and rowdy crowds of sports nuts, we're just a little too quaint and laidback for all that.
But we know it's important to people. We know some people will travel thousands of miles just to watch their team play. We know that the real fans aren't just there for the home games, but support the team when they're away too. We know that people who are renting a condo for 3 weeks or living here as snowbirds might need to catch a game just to be reminded that the real world still exists outside of the fantasy that is St. Augustine. And for those people and the many others that visit St. Augustine, whether they're international guests or visitors that are just wanting to check out a different sports experience, we've put together this guide to some nearby sports venues to visit.
So if you're traveling for an exciting away game in Jacksonville, or even one of the big sports events in Northeast Florida like the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra or the Gator Bowl, now known as the TaxSlayer Bowl, in Jacksonville, know that St. Augustine is a scenic getaway just a 45-min drive away.
If you want to experience local sports while you're in Florida, check out these exciting teams 45 minutes (to Jacksonville) to 2 hours (to Orlando) from St. Augustine. And when you're not "root root rooting" for the home team (or the away team), experience the local culture by heading to St. Augustine--the nation's oldest city and a haven of history, beautiful bed and breakfasts, tasteful restaurants, and a laid back nightlife with live music, cocktail lounges, ghost tours, and cigar bars.
And just an FYI, for college sports, St. Augustine has the Flagler College Saints, a collegiate team that plays men's and women's basketball, cross country, indoor track, tennis, golf, soccer, as well as volleyball, cheerleading, baseball, and softball. You can check out their schedule online and attend the games that run during the school year.
If you're a snowbird and you're wanting to check out a game while you're in the area, or if you're just here for a longer vacation and you think it'd be cool to see an NFL game, we encourage you to check out the schedules below and consider visiting our neighbors in Jacksonville and Orlando Florida for some exciting games and matches.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are America's underdogs. They're the comeback story that keeps repeating itself and most of America found themselves cheering the team on in early 2018. The team is owned by Sadiq Khan, a well-loved Palestinian mogul who came to America as a youth and embodies the American Dream. The Jacksonville Jaguars became the first team franchise for Khan to purchase, fulfilling a dream he had of owning an American sports team. Since buying the team he has worked tirelessly to build them into a force to be reckoned with. With a roster that has included football pros like Mark Brunell, Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones Drew, and currently Blake Bortles and Jalen Ramsey, an experience at the Jaguars' home stadium is worthwhile for any sports fanatic.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are part of the AFC East conference. Here are some of the upcoming games for the 2018 -2019 season being held at TIAA Bank Field, aka The Bank. Find tickets and watch some professional football just 45 minutes north of St. Augustine.

The Icemen are the newest hockey franchise to come to Northeast Florida. They are a minor team in the ECHL that started their first season in Jacksonville in 2017-2018. You'd almost be crazy NOT to travel for an away hockey game in Florida, especially considering the coldness of the sport (I mean, do they even use stadiums up north or do they just find an empty lake?). Find the right ticket choice for you and check out the Jacksonville Icemen.
